Financial Intelligence Authority (FIA) Uganda

The Financial Intelligence Authority (FIA) of Uganda implements robust security measures internally to protect sensitive data and has a specific mandate to increase public awareness of money laundering (ML) and terrorism financing (TF) risks across the country.
Internal Security Measures
The FIA employs various internal security strategies to protect the integrity and confidentiality of the financial data it collects and analyzes:
    • Cybersecurity Resilience: The Authority focuses heavily on combating cyber threats. This includes participating in workshops with organizations like the UNODC to enhance national security and improve responses to threats like ransomware attacks.
    • Staff Training: The FIA trains its staff on information security awareness, including simulated phishing attacks, to create a “human firewall” against malicious emails and cyber risks.
    • Data Protection: Safeguarding the privacy and confidentiality of collected data is an overriding responsibility, which imprints all data management functions and operations within the Authority.
